Insights into insulin secretion
Electron microscopic image of mouse ß cells. Two related articles in the issue this month explore the mechanisms of insulin secretion from ß cells. Kido and colleagues describe a PKCλ-knockout mouse with insulin signaling defects (page 138), while Renström and colleagues show that the Cav2.3 Ca2+ channel regulates the second phase of insulin secretion (page 146).
