Birthing B cells in B-CLL
A human B cell follicle (CD20, blue) with a germinal center (BCL6, green) surrounded by T cells (CD3, red). It had been previously thought that B cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL) was a static disease in which B cells accumulated without appreciable apoptosis or death. Nicholas Chiorazzi and colleagues now show that B-CLL is a dynamic disease with abundant proliferation and loss of B cells (page 755).Image credit: Giorgio Cattoretti, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons
