Growth hormone treatment of HIV patients
False colored HIV virions. Napolitano and colleagues report findings of a prospective randomized study examining growth hormone (GH) effects on the immune system of HIV-1–infected adults. GH treatment was associated with robust increases in thymic density and circulating CD4+ T cells, indicating that human thymic function can be enhanced by pharmacologic therapy.
