Hearing estrogen loud and clear
False colored photomicrograph of a cochlear section showing inner and outer hair cells. Meltser and colleagues have shown that estrogen receptor β (ERβ) plays a role in preventing hearing loss. Strong immunoreactivity of ERβ was found in the inner and outer hair cell nuclei.
