MATERIALS AND METHODS Three-months-old male Osborn-Mendel rats were divided into
three groups: group I consisted of 2 5 rats in which the common bile duct was excised; group
II consisted of 21 animals in which the common bile duct was ligated; and group III consisted
of 23 rats which were observed as unoperated or sham-operated controls.
